Theology essentially means 'God talk'. As such, it is an invitation to reflection on the deepest parts of our lives and world, seeking a fuller awareness of the love, beauty, truth and goodness in which we are created, held and transformed. Like the stories we tell about ourselves and to ourselves, our God-talk can enlighten and empower or muddle and mar. Good theology therefore is vital to a healthy world but requires humility, openness and a commitment to being transformed by grace. These qualities have not always been in abundance when gender issues have been discussed. As transgender experience and insight are more fully voiced and valued, they therefore help to enhance us all in our spiritual journeys, illuminating our understanding of God afresh. For trans faith is a gift to the church and the world.
